Regency hair and dancing?

I am attending a Regency/Historical Ball this fall and was wondering two things.

1. I have short hair that touches my shoulders by an inch and was wondering if anyone had any tips for short regency style hair. Or any short style pertaining to the 18th century.

2. If for the lack of men, can you dance with another girl or is that considered unproper and if you can do you both honor by courtseying. (sp)

Thanks!

Regency hair and dancing?

Lucky you!

The 18th century was often full of really BIG hair, curls upon curls. Does your hair hold a curl? If so I would have it done with some pinned up into loops or a small bun, and leave some to frame your face and the back of your head, in ringlets. If keeping a curl is an issue, I would try to get as much of your hair pinned up as possible.

Although it may not have been done at the time, I do not think it improper for two girls to dance, due to a lack of men.

Gloves would certainly make the outfit. Long white gloves are better if your dress has no sleeves or short sleeves. Short white gloves would work better than none at all.

Have fun!!!

1. They wore powdered wigs. But you could have your hair put up in a beehive (the higher the better) style.

2. In the day, they did not dance with other women. That came later as protocols loosened in society.

Curtsy reserved for royalty - and the depth of curtsy determined by high/low rank - the slighter the curtsy, the lower the rank.

Gloves ARE a must - only a commoner would touch skin to skin with the public.
